What is Oral Thrush

Oral thrush, also known as oral candidiasis, is a fungal infection in the mouth caused by the yeast Candida. It commonly affects infants, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.

Common Clinical Presentation

  • Creamy white lesions on the tongue, inner cheeks, gums, tonsils, or throat

  • Slightly raised lesions with a cottage cheese-like appearance

  • Redness, burning, or soreness that may cause difficulty eating or swallowing

  • Cracking and redness at the corners of the mouth (angular cheilitis)
